How to change boot drive on windows 7

Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Annas Ansari. I did a defrag using IObit's SmartDefrag program and after rebooting, my windows would continuously fail to boot. At first I just ran startup repair a couple of times hoping that would solve the problem, but it didn't.

After many restarts, I found that the problem is with the partition windows is trying to boot from. In the system recovery menu, it says it's trying to load Windows 7 from drive E How can I make it boot from drive C: and not drive E:? I should note that my computer fails to startup at all and my ONLY tool is the command prompt in system recovery. To change the boot order or sequence, as some call it , you have to enter the system BIOS setup screen that was mentioned previously: Press F1, F2, Delete, or the correct key for your specific system on the POST screen or the screen that displays the computer manufacturer's logo to enter the BIOS setup screen.

Look for where it says Boot, and enter the submenu. Select Boot Sequence, and press Enter. Navigate to where it states "first device" and cycle through the list to where it states "Hard Disk Drive" or "IDE0" assuming that your hard drive is connected to IDE0. If your setup screen does not specifically state "first device" but rather just a list of all the devices, simply select the hard disk and move it to the top of the list.

That can be done by using the Change Values keys which for my BIOS, is made by Phoenix - the spacebar moves an item up and the minus symbol key moves an item down. The specific keys differ on almost every system, but the basic concepts are the same.

You want to get your hard disk to the top of the list or listed as the first device from which to try to boot. If you do not know the keys for your BIOS, there are usually instructions located on either the bottom or right side of the screen where you will be able to find the correct keys for your system. Using F Save and Exit all of your actions or navigate to the Exit tab and save changes. Choose [Yes] When Setup Confirmation appears if all desirable changes are made. Place the desired CD into the drive before computer restarts.

Changes will now save and the c omputer will restart automatically. If the first device is not bootable, your computer will try to boot from the second device in the boot order, and so on. In that case that the computer fails to start up, the operator may need to reorganize the boot order in order to boot successfully next time.
